The illustrator drew exactly what the author wrote. He took the author "literally". Did the character in the story really mean what he said? He used a "play on words". These metaphors and word slangs are called IDIOMS. They are not meant to be taken literally, or exactly as they are said. Have you ever heard of any of these? Can you think of some other idioms? How is this language a trick? Why should we be aware of idioms when we are talking and reading and writing?
